We have a MOPPETS Co-ordinator!

Good news, ladies! Our very own Clarissa French has decided to take on the role of MOPPETS coordinator this year, allowing us to breathe a sigh of relief that MOPS will still continue. Please join me in welcoming her to this new role and praising God for providing yet again.

Here is what she had when I asked her what she had to say about her new role.

How long have you been with MOPS?
7 years, 5 as just a mom and 2 on steering team with Creative role.

How long in leadership?
Leadership is a life long gift, I've been in leadership since I can remember, it's been fun participating in Mops leadership the past 2 years.

What did you love about MOPS?
The friendships that were available if I made the effort and the others did, I've made a few life long friends and some life stage friends that I'll never forget.

What are your hobbies/interests?
Children's Ministry, Pampered Chef, Sewing, Puzzles, Scrap-booking, Bowling, Choir, Pottery, Organization, I'm simply scattered these days, in this stage of life I'm taking my hobbies/interests very lightly... you can only do so much as a mom of young ones so I just do what is fun at the moment if it fits the schedule.

What are you looking forward to most about this role at MOPPETS?
Blessing the Moms with everything I've recieved in the past 7 years, at some point I just realized I was "all grown up" so to speak, and needed more then anything to step back and serve others. Plus, I get to use my early childhood education on all the kiddos, I'm finally getting to use my brain again!

What scares you the most regarding this role?
Failure, we all fear failure, I will need constant reminders that "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me." and to remember that fear is not from the Lord.

Anything else you want to add?
I'm so excited, please share my excitement with those around you so they will want to serve our kids too!

You can visit Clarissa's Pampered Chef website by copy-pasting this address into your browser window: http://www.pamperedchef.biz/pamperissa

We are currently looking for someone to fill our MOPPETS co-ordinator position for the 2011 - 2012 MOPS year. Health Challenge!

One of our very own MOPS moms Alison Zander recommended this page to me and I thought it was worth mentioning here. Sacramento Parent is hosting a one month health challenge on Facebook. It's a fun way to make healthy choices. The rules are simple. You print out a score card and then get one point per day for doing the things mentioned on there. Most of it is simple stuff - like remembering to do something nice for someone else, getting outside for 15 minutes or getting some sort of exercise for 30 minutes. At the end of the day you add up your points and then also at the end of the week.

The best part? You pick a partner - or two or three - and keep one another accountable. You share what's easy, what's hard and what really is impossible. It's fun, ladies. Join us. There's a bonus challenge (everyday, I think) for extra fun.

If you want to do this with us (from today May 9th through June 6th) send me a message on Facebook. I'll add you on!

Blessed Day

Our annual Tea and Treasures went supremely well today. Thank you to all who prayed for us. Thank you also to the extra volunteers - for MOPPETS as well as servers for your heart and hands. Most of the seventy-odd moms we love and cherish were able to attend - some were in labor. That's right - two of our MOPS moms had little MOPPETS today! The Lord was fully present as testimonies declared His Name and the work He continues to do in our lives.

What a blessed day!

Tea and Treasures

We are all excited about the upcoming Tea and Treasures! As the lovely invitation on the left mentions, it is a catered tea party with treasures from the hearts of the leaders. Everyone is excited but prayers are needed, so if you have stumbled upon this blog by accident, please pray for us. We have run into a few glitches with leaders getting sick and their children getting into accidents. Since this is an event not just to dress up and have tea but also a huge opportunity to share the gospel and the light of the Lord Jesus Christ, we have no illusions about what might be behind the sudden unforeseen "accidents."
Please keep our MOPS group in your prayers.

Movies with "Kids in mind"

Before renting a movie learn more about it. A website called http://www.kidsinmind.com/ is a great resource for parents. You can learn what words are said, what type of nudity and how much, and if there is violence in the film. It really gets specific on the content of the movie.

Toxic Cake Box Warning

Boxes & Toxins - check your cupboards!

This is confirmed on Snopes: http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/pancake.asp

A student at HBHS (high school) had pancakes this week and it almost became fatal. His Mom (registered nurse) made him pancakes, dropped him off at school and headed to play tennis. She never takes her cell phone on the court but did this time and her son called to say he was having trouble breathing. She told him to go to the nurse immediately and proceeded to call school and alert the nurse. The nurse called the paramedics and they were there in 3 minutes and worked on the boy all the way to the hospital. He came so close to dying. Evidently this is more common then I ever knew. Check the expiration dates on packages like pancakes and cake mixes that have yeast which over time develop spores. Apparently, the mold that forms in old mixes can be toxic! Throw away ALL OUTDATED pancake mix, brownie mixes, Bisquick, cake & cookie mixes, etc., you have in your home.

P.S. Tell this to your children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces and anyone else who keeps these types of mixes in the cupboard.

What is MOPPETS?

ABOUT THE MOPPETS PROGRAM

MOPPETS is quality, loving childcare for kids (infants to Kindergarten) to play and learn while moms are being nurtured. MOPPETS is not just childcare but interactions through singing, dancing, playing, and age appropriate activities. You can rest assured that your children will not only be safe, but they will be having lots of fun making friends while you are doing the same! So sit back, relax & enjoy.
Below are our MOPPETS Guidelines to help make the best experience for you and your children.

MOPPETS GUIDELINES

DRESS
Please dress your child in comfortable clothing appropriate for both outdoor play (where age appropriate) and indoor play. PLEASE label clothing that may be removed during the course of the morning.

CHECK-IN TIME
Check-in time begins at 9:15 AM. Early check-in is not possible as the teachers are busy preparing the rooms for the morning activities. Please sign your child in at his/her room and provide any information needed for that day.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
New this year – at check-in, there will be a sticker to write special instructions about your child on. Your child will wear it on his/her back for the childcare volunteers to see.

CHECK-OUT TIME
Please pick your children up immediately after the meeting, no later than 11:30 AM. Both the teachers and your children will appreciate your promptness!

PEEKING MOMS
Most children become distraught if mom peeks in but doesn't stay. If you are concerned about your child's well-being, please ask one of your mentor moms for assistance.

LABELING
PLEASE label your child's bottles, sippy cups, sweaters, diaper bags, etc. Up to three year olds will have three name tags - one for the child, one for the diaper bag, and one for the mother. The one on the diaper bag can remain on the bag for the MOPS year. The other two tags are to be returned at the ending of each MOPS session. BOTTLES ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE 2 OR 3 YEAR OLD GROUPS.

TOYS
Do not bring toys from home as we cannot be responsible if those toys are lost or broken. If toys are mistakenly brought from home, the staff will label and set the toy aside until check-out time.

MOVING UP
There will only be one time for moving your child to an older group during the MOPS year. The move-up day will be the first meeting in January. Your child must be 2 ½ years of age at the time of the first September meeting to join the 2 year old program. Children turning 2 during the fall will have to wait to move until January. Children wishing to be in the 3 year old program must be 3 AND potty trained completely by the first September meeting. Children turning 3 during the fall will have to wait to move until the meeting in January AND must be completely potty trained. The children from infants to age 2 will move within the nursery as is developmentally appropriate.

DIAPERS
We will make every attempt to change your child's diaper for those children in the nursery. Please bring labeled diapers as the church has a limited supply. If you do not want us to change your child's diaper, please let us know. We will be happy to assist those children who are in the process of potty training. Please let us know when your child is ready for this experience!
FYI: We expect that your child is current with their inoculations. If not, we will ask you to change your child's diaper when needed.

ALLERGIES
Please let us know of any allergies your child has and we will mark his/her tag accordingly.

SNACKS
There will be a snack time as part of the morning class. We anticipate that moms will ask about bringing in a special treat (i.e. birthdays and holidays). We welcome them for older children (2 ½ years and older). Please make prior arrangements with the class teacher(s).

GOOD HEALTH GUIDELINES
We all want a healthy environment in our MOPPETS program, so we ask you keep your child at home when you observe any of the following:
• Fever/vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Green or yellow runny nose
• Questionable rash
• Excessive coughing
• Discharge in or around the eyes
• Any communicable disease
If your child becomes ill while in MOPPETS, you will be notified immediately. If your child is being treated with an antibiotic, he/she must have received treatment for at least 24 hours before coming to MOPPETS.

***CHILDREN IN MOPS WITH MOMS***
There may be occasions when you need to have your child with you at the MOPS meeting. PLEASE REMEMBER: no child over 6 months old will be able to attend the meeting with MOM. This is to minimize disturbances during the meeting.
